Pennsylvanian rap duo Joey Valence & Brae outlined three simple requirements for their HYPERYOUTH World Tour before embarking on the global journey. The goals in mind: to sweat, to dance, and to make a friend. Each of these goals were beyond exceeded when they took the stage at The Observatory in Santa Ana on September 30th.

The eclectic duo hit Orange County as the sixth stop on their HYPERYOUTH World Tour after making their way down from San Francisco. The tour, named after the pair’s most recent album, runs through early November, with more dates to be added.

The two-man crew received opening support from founding members of AG Club, Baby Boy and Jody Fontaine. The Norcal natives matched the vigorous brand of energy JVB is known for, making them a welcome addition to the night’s festivities.

Friend and personal DJ for JVB, Ewook, also took the stage for a brief though nostalgic set in between the opening act and the anticipated main artists. Between the early 2000s sounds of Ewook and the crowd commanding energy of AG Club, the audience was primed for JVB to take the stage and continue the show.

The eccentric pair was welcomed on stage to a roar from the young audience. Light bounced off the walls and onto the large disco ball mascot centerpiece on the stage, seemingly lifted straight from the album cover.

Joey Valence & Brae loomed over the audience amidst mounting chants of “J-V-B” started by the backing track of their opening song “HYPERYOUTH,” and spurred on by the young restless crowd.

The partners in rhyme bolstered their set with plenty of pulls from the HYPERYOUTH album, splicing in previous hits from earlier releases like “DELINQUENT (TEEN TITAN),” STARTAFIGHT and of course early viral hits like PUNK TACTICS.

The crowd was beyond ecstatic hearing the fresh album in a live and lively environment. The microphones sounded crisp with seemingly no audio issues despite the hectic energy the two person team brought to the stage.

Clad in Y2K aesthetics from head to toe, Joey Valence & Brae mixed Jersey Shore-era style with a modern identity. Their music capitalizes on nostalgia with prominent samples laying the foundation for their high energy rap, which was further emphasized by their outfits.

The audience mirrored these same visuals with outfits ranging from tame tees and jeans to vibrant layers and textures. The attendees were primarily teens and young adults but there was a noticeable older crowd as well that seemed just as engaged in the show.

People showed up from surrounding counties to be get a view of JVB and the intensity they brought to the Observatory.

“These dudes put on an incredible show wherever they show up,” said Nino Vilage, who drove in from Koreatown.

Joey Valence & Brae showed out with a brief but emphatic two song encore that left the crowd itching for more. The duo stayed around on stage for almost 30 minutes signing autographs and interacting with all that showed up.

The HYPERYOUTH World Tour continues with dates in the US dates continuing into October before moving to venues in Europe in November.
